|Position Title:||Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)-Orthopedic|
|Compensation:||$25.00-$27.00 per hour|
|Hours:||30-40 hours per week|
|Job Description:||One month contract with possibility of extension
8 hour shift, Monday to Friday, No weekends
An orthopedic nurse takes care of people suffering from musculoskeletal malfunctions and diseases and mostly is expected to possess the following qualities to be effective on the job:
Must be sensitive to other people’s feelings and reactions – they must understand the pain and how it affects their patients.
Must pay maximum attention to the orthopedic doctors and patients, understand instructions and ask questions when confused.
Critical thinking and logical reasoning. Must be able to persuade their patients to follow instructions.
Understand the body, organ functions and most importantly, the musculoskeletal system.
Must be a very good time managers and understand the concept of customer-relationship management perfectly.
IV therapy, venipuncture, intravenous catheter insertion, and advanced airway management experience
Work with doctors to perform treatments on patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
Monitor the patient’s health and general body condition and report changes and improvements to the doctor.
Take pain prescriptions from the doctors and administer the same to the patients.
Prepare a pain management schedule for patients based on doctor’s prescriptions to prevent patients from suffering from pain.
Monitor and quickly attend to any signs of negative reactions to drugs and allergies.
Educate patients on steps to take to manage pain and how to avoid post-surgical infections.
Help injured patients manage and treat pain and get better after injury.
Assist with training of patients that are just recovering from an injury.
Assist orthopedic doctors in performing their duties (injections, IV)
Administrate and Managed infusion, IV therapy, IM and SC injections
Communicate regarding lab and X-ray results and other clinical matters with patients as per the protocol agreed with the doctors
Office work as necessary, general reception /office work including telephone answering retrieving patient’s messages, scanning, maintaining computer records

|Job Requirements:||Successful completion of a Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent
Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (RPN)
ACLS certification mandatory
Infection Control Certification
Excellent time management and organizational skills and able to work independently
Excellent oral and written communication skills· The ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
3-5 years Clinical practice experience preferred
