Position Title: Cook
Location: Tiverton
Compensation: $21.00 per hour
Hours: 0-20 hours per week-7:45 am to 6 pm
Job Description: Prepares meals as determined by a menu plan
Prepares evening snacks
Prepares afternoon tea time items
Completes daily temperature audits for fridges, freezers & prepared foods
Serves foods for therapeutic diets according to direction
Makes menu substitutions as necessary
Meets time schedules for service of meals and nourishments
Performs any other related duties such as clean-up of work areas
Job Requirements: A valid Food Handling Certificate or proof of enrollment
Criminal Record Check for Vulnerable Sector
Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills with residents, families, and co-workers
Ability to set priorities and organize work
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to operate related equipment
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Strong knowledge of different types of foods and their cooking times
Well versed in planning menus with Kitchen Manager, establishing size of food portions, estimating food requirements and costs, and watch and order supplies
Exceptional understanding of preparing food for cooking and adding appropriate seasoning
Highly experienced in performing food quality inspections to ensure that all food items conform to hygiene standards
Well-honed aesthetic skills aimed at arranging and presenting food in a manner pleasing to the eye
Solid know-how of carving and preparing different types of meats
Excellent understanding of mixing the right amount of ingredients according to weight and type
Strong knowledge of operating industry sized ovens and cooking ranges
Knowledge of preparing different types of cuisines, relishes and salads
Highly experienced in performing preventative and cleaning of kitchen equipment
Track record of following best hygiene and sanitation practices aimed at providing quality food services
Flexibility to try and test new recipes in order to add new items to existing menus
Ability to prepare specialized health food items or alternate menu items
Strong background of handling kitchen functions such as supplies and inventory management, recording temperatures and cleaning as required by Health Department
Highly skilled in preparing and cooking complete meals and particular dishes and foods
In-depth knowledge of preparing and cooking special meals for residents as initiated by dietitian
Committed to maintain a clean kitchen and work area
